56-Year-Old Is 5th Hiker To Die In Utah State, National Parks Due To Heat

The extreme heat in Utah claimed another victim on Sunday (July 21). The Hurricane City Police Department said that a 56-year-old woman was found “unresponsive" on a trail near Quail Creek State Park.

Officials said that the woman, who was not identified, called 911 to report that she was "distressed" and had run out of water. The temperature at the time was hovering around 106 degrees.

When officers found her, they attempted to resuscitate her. Unfortunately, their efforts failed, and she was pronounced dead.

Authorities said it was the fifth heat-related death in July , as the state deals with record temperatures.

"We've seen some tragedies in southern Utah because of the extreme heat," Utah Governor Spencer Cox said on Friday . "People who are hiking: Make sure you are well-hydrated, wear lots of sunscreen, and you dress appropriately for the weather conditions."

There is no relief in sight as temperatures are forecast to be above 100 degrees for the next two weeks .
