Uxbridge neighborhoods lose power after a utility pole snaps
Uxbridge police announced several neighborhoods were without power on Thursday afternoon. Officials said a snapped pole caused a closure on Old Elmdale Road. Crews were on scene working to restore power. Officials said it is unclear when power will be back.

Mass. officials urge protection after mosquitos in test positive for two viruses
Health officials urged Bay Staters on Wednesday to use bug spray outdoors this summer after mosquito samples tested positive for two viruses. The Department of Public Health said the Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) virus was detected in mosquito samples collected June 30 in Carver. DPH's alert comes a day after officials said the Massachusetts State Public Health Laboratory identified West Nile virus (WNV) in two mosquito samples collected June 25 in Quincy.

Celebrate with local marching bands, dance troops, teams, scouts, military groups, and local businesses. But Milford’s fireworks are not until Friday night. One of the NASA astronauts who’s been orbiting space for weeks due to several malfunctions on her spaceship is a Massachusetts native. Although Sunita L. Williams was born in Ohio, Williams considers Needham her hometown and graduated from the town’s high school in 1983, according to her NASA biography. In 2019, Needham renamed an elementary school after Williams to honor her aerospace career, MassLive previously reported.
