    Barbour County teen killed in wreck near Valley Head

    VALLEY HEAD, W.Va. (WBOY) — A teen from Barbour County is dead following a vehicle accident involving three separate vehicles near Valley Head on Sunday.

    According to a release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office , on June 23, deputies responded to U.S. Route 219 along Seneca Trail between Valley Head and Huttonsville for a vehicle accident involving multiple vehicles.

    When crews arrived on scene they found that three vehicles were involved and that two had “significant front-end damage.” Fire crews on scene were able to extricate one person from the wreckage who did not survive.

    The deceased was identified as Keaton McDermott, 18, a recent graduate of Philip Barbour High School who had committed to West Virginia Wesleyan College for track.

    The remaining people involved in the crash were taken to Davis Medical Center for further treatment. Crews from the West Virginia State Police, Valley Head Fire Department, Huttonsville-Mill Creek Fire Department, Randolph County EMS and Shavers Fork Fire and Rescue responded to the scene.

    A vigil is being held for McDermott Monday night, 12 News will have coverage of it in our newscast at 11 p.m.
