CBS4 Investigates wins Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for A questionable call at the Progreso bridge

HARLINGEN, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — The CBS 4 Investigates team has been awarded a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for its investigative reporting.

On Monday, the Radio Television Digital News Association announced the winners.

The CBS 4 Investigates team received the award for their work on A questionable call at the Progreso bridge , which sheds light on the political corruption surrounding city leaders in Progreso.

CBS4 Investigative Reporters Derick Garcia and Dave Hendricks worked on this piece to expose the corruption concealed in Progreso.

After experiencing success with this story, which unveiled that no charges were pressed on two political brothers for drunk driving, Dave and Derick continued to investigate the wrongdoing in Progreso in connection to the Alanis family.

The Murrow Awards are among the most respected journalism awards in the world. The award highlights responsible journalism that helps expose corruption and shines a light on problems that would otherwise go unnoticed.

This is the third time our station has been honored with a Regional Murrow Award.

The first being in 2021 when ValleyCentral.com won the award under the digital category and the second being in 2023 when KVEO NBC23/CBS4 won the award for its 956 Vanished series.

The Murrow Awards are the embodiment of the values, principles and standards set forth by Edward R. Murrow, a journalism pioneer who set the standards for the highest quality of broadcast journalism.

KVEO CBS4 will now advance to the national competition. Winners in this competition will be announced in August.
