    Valley airports affected by global tech issue

    HARLINGEN, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — Airports across the world are seeing disruptions after a global technology outage ensued early Friday morning.

    The issue is due to a faulty software update that has impacted companies and services around the world, including the Rio Grande Valley.

    Brownsville-South Padre Island International Airport

    Travelers flying to and from the Brownsville area are expected to experience longer lines and wait times due to the outage.

    The Brownsville-South Padre Island International Airport released a statement addressing the issue.

    “Due to a global technology issue affecting multiple airlines this morning, please verify your flight status directly with your carrier,” the airport announced on a social media post.

    There are four airlines that fly to and from the area including American Airlines, Avelo, United and Aerus.

    Widespread disruptions were not the result of security incident or cyberattack: CrowdStrike

    Valley International Airport

    Located in Harlingen, the Valley International Airport confirmed to ValleyCentral they have not been impacted by the global issue.

    “We haven’t gotten anything or heard of anything about that,” the Communications Department at Valley International Airport said.

    There have not been any reported delays at the Harlingen airport. Operations are currently running smoothly.

    McAllen International Airport

    According to the Director of Aviation with the McAllen International Airport, the issue is being acknowledged.

    “We understand there are system wide IT issues impacting flights. We encourage passengers to stay in touch with their airlines for any updates,” Jeremy Santoscoy, Director of Aviation said.

    There are six airlines with flights from McAllen including United, Allegiant Air, Aeromexico, Delta, American Airlines and Volaris.

    ValleyCentral has reached out to the McAllen airport Communications Department for further comment but have yet to hear back.
