Delaware Co. teen named Iowa Dairy Princess
DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) - 18-year-old Haley Ronnebaum of Earlville was crowned the 71st Iowa Dairy Princess during a ceremony at the Iowa State Fairgrounds on Wednesday. Over the next year, Ronnebaum will serve as a goodwilll ambassador for Iowa’s dairy farmers and help consumers understand the dedication of families to their cows and the milk they produce.
Iowa state auditor claims former Delhi city clerk mishandled more than $80,000
The Iowa state auditor alleges that a former Delhi city clerk used more than $80,000 in improper and unsupported disbursements after city officials requested a special investigation. Auditor of State Rob Sand released a report on an investigation that revealed that Lori Tucker spent $66,599 on improper disbursements and $13,525 on unsupported disbursements from January 2015 to June 2022. ...
Iowa nursing home operator faces more wrongful death claims
(Des Moines, Iowa) – One of Iowa’s largest nursing home operators, Care Initiatives of West Des Moines, is currently facing at least 10 wrongful death lawsuits. The Iowa Capital Dispatch reports the lawsuits, all filed in state court over the past 18 months, include four against Northcrest Specialty Care in Waterloo, which has been the focus of at least 21 complaint investigations by the state in the past year. Care Initiative’s facilities in Avoca and Corning are included in the lawsuits. Read more about those cases below.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – For many employees, Chophouse Downtown was their livelihood. So when the owners abruptly closed it last Thursday, it affected their future income. Now former employers are telling TV9 that many employees didn’t receive their last paychecks as scheduled last week, with a few saying past paychecks they deposited bounced. A TV9 Reporter reached out to one of the owners, Ryan Avila-Burillo. He explained that they’re currently in the process of liquidating their assets to be able to pay everybody. He’s unsure how long that will take, but has sent updates to employees. The Chophouse owners cited several reasons for closing, mostly competition from new restaurants downtown like Big Grove and Pickle Palace. Removal of parking meters, he says, confused a lot of customers. But the owners did not give as many reasons for shutting down their restaurant called Mezcal in a completely different area of town.
New Cedar Rapids Restaurant Announces Closure After 3 Months

State of Iowa taking public comment on law giving gun carry permits to school employees
DES MOINES, Iowa — The State of Iowa is looking for public feedback on a law passed in April that allows school employees to carry firearms on campus. So far, the state said they have not issued any gun carry permits to school employees because administrative rules are not yet in place.
