New Cedar Rapids Restaurant Announces Closure After 3 Months
Another restaurant in Cedar Rapids will be shutting its doors in the very near future. Acapulco Seafood & Grill just opened its doors back in early May at 2925 Williams Pkwy SW, the former home of Vivian's Soul Food. After about three months in business, the restaurant revealed in the Cedar Rapids Area Foodies group on Facebook yesterday (August 7th) that they will be closing their doors this week. Cedar Rapids Team Wins National Granny Basketball Tournament
Don't call this basketball team a bunch of 'grannies'. Call them National Champions!. A team from Cedar Rapids has won the largest National Granny Basketball Tournament in history! That team is the Cedar Rapids Sizzlers. CBS2 reports that the Sizzlers cooked their way to a National Championship in Granny Basketball with a thrilling 51-47 overtime win in the national title game. The tournament took place on August 3rd and 4th at the Homefield KCK Showcase Center in Kansas City.
UI researchers open hub in Cedar Rapids
The University of Iowa has a new research hub in eastern Iowa. In June, researchers in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences opened a multipurpose space in Cedar Rapids to tap into the city’s larger and more diverse population, with the goal to enroll hundreds of participants in studies involving topics such as language learning, reading, exercise, and cognitive aging, and behavioral markers for alcohol use disorder in older teenagers and young adults.

How Big! Lots Closings Will Impact South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota Stores
What began as a small downsizing for a national retail chain has turned into a massive store closing event. Consumer Affairs is reporting that Big!
