Charles City 9th Grader, Steer in Governor’s Charity Steer Show
A Charles City ninth grader will participate in the annual Governor’s Charity Steer Show at the Iowa State Fair this weekend. Brennan Ruzicka of Marble Rock and his steer, Peaches, are among 24 youth and their steers to be exhibited in Des Moines this Saturday (08.10) afternoon at 4:30 pm in the Pioneer Pavillion on the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines. Each youth and steer will be accompanied by a guest celebrity, with Ruzicka being paired with Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig. Governor Kim Reynolds will also be among the celebrities in the show ring.

Thursday, the Hampton City Council reviewed a request from Franklin County Auditor, Katy Flint, and Franklin County Facilities Director, Ryan Peterson, to remove the sidewalk along the south and west side of the Franklin County Food Pantry location at 302 5th Avenue NE. New Illinois Law Requires Weather Radios In Certain Homes
It's been a rough tornado season and a new Illinois law is taking aim at that. We can all agree it's been a messy summer. In the Chicago area alone last week, there were 33 tornadoes, compared to their usual 5 or 6 per year. With the derecho that moved through last week, 5 tornadoes rolled through the QCA. In Iowa, May was ridiculous. We average 11 tornadoes in May. But this year, we had over 80 tornadoes in May alone.
