Don't call this basketball team a bunch of 'grannies'. Call them National Champions!. A team from Cedar Rapids has won the largest National Granny Basketball Tournament in history! That team is the Cedar Rapids Sizzlers. CBS2 reports that the Sizzlers cooked their way to a National Championship in Granny Basketball with a thrilling 51-47 overtime win in the national title game. The tournament took place on August 3rd and 4th at the Homefield KCK Showcase Center in Kansas City.
Marion Restaurant Wins State Grant for Expansion Project
Congratulations are in order for a Marion restaurant that just earned grant money from the state of Iowa. GoldFinch Tap + Eatery, located at 740 10th Street in Uptown Marion, pitched ideas for expansion before a panel of judges in the Main Street Iowa Pitch competition. It was the final round of the Open 4 Business competition which concluded Monday night in Cedar Rapids. According to a press release from Uptown Marion, Goldfinch Tap + Eatery finished as the first runner-up in the competition. That earned the restaurant $10,000 in state grants.

Ashrah Clayton, 16, was last seen in the 1300 Block of Sandusky Drive around 9:15 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2024. Muscatine to approve new interim city administrator
MUSCATINE, Iowa — The City of Muscatine may have found its next interim city administrator. At a special meeting on Thursday, Aug. 8 at 6 p.m., the Muscatine City Council will vote on whether or not to approve current Muscatine Police Chief Anthony Kies for the position.
