Women of Fredericksburg Rummage Sale This Weekend
The Women of Fredericksburg are prepping to host their annual rummage sale this weekend (08.10-08.11). That’s Kayla Schutte with the Women of Fredericksburg show, who says items for sale will come from donations by the public, which will be accepted from 10 am to 6 pm Friday (08.09) at the Fredericksburg Community Center.

Charles City 9th Grader, Steer in Governor’s Charity Steer Show
A Charles City ninth grader will participate in the annual Governor’s Charity Steer Show at the Iowa State Fair this weekend. Brennan Ruzicka of Marble Rock and his steer, Peaches, are among 24 youth and their steers to be exhibited in Des Moines this Saturday (08.10) afternoon at 4:30 pm in the Pioneer Pavillion on the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines. Each youth and steer will be accompanied by a guest celebrity, with Ruzicka being paired with Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig. Governor Kim Reynolds will also be among the celebrities in the show ring.

Charles City Housing & Redevelopment Authority Announces Certified Tenant Program
The Charles City Housing and Redevelopment Authority (CCHRA), in partnership with the Charles City Housing Taskforce, has announced its inaugural Certified Tenant Program. The CCHRA’s Emily Garden says the three-night course focuses on a variety of skill sets aimed at growing tenants’ competencies around home care, personal finance, and community. Classes are planned for September 19 and 26 and October 3 from 6 to 7:30 pm each session at the CCHRA office, located 205 Greenlees Circle in Charles City. Childcare will be provided.

Man Arrested on Multiple Felony Charges
Tuesday, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a person that was located with Washington County warrants in Osceola. They arrested 58-year-old Teddy Johnson on three Washington County warrants. The first for controlled substance violation 3rd or subsequent offense, a Class D Felony, the second for possession of drug paraphernalia a simple misdemeanor, and the third for 15 counts of purchase or possession of a depiction of a minor in a sex act first offense, and aggravated misdemeanor. Total bond is set at $85,300 and a detainer was placed with Clark County Jail when Johnson was later transported to the Washington County Jail. It's been a rough tornado season and a new Illinois law is taking aim at that. We can all agree it's been a messy summer. In the Chicago area alone last week, there were 33 tornadoes, compared to their usual 5 or 6 per year. With the derecho that moved through last week, 5 tornadoes rolled through the QCA. In Iowa, May was ridiculous. We average 11 tornadoes in May. But this year, we had over 80 tornadoes in May alone.
