Iowa City Council looks to add changes to tobacco and vape shop rules
IOWA CITY, Iowa — Iowa City Council is working to change some of the rules regarding the amount of tobacco and vape stores in town. In a work session on Tuesday, councilmembers discussed a 55 permit limit in the city (down from 62), a 500 ft. barrier from tobacco shops being near school or university property, and the ban of the sale of kratom, an herbal substance the gives stimulus effects.
Women of Fredericksburg Rummage Sale This Weekend
The Women of Fredericksburg are prepping to host their annual rummage sale this weekend (08.10-08.11). New Illinois Law Requires Weather Radios In Certain Homes
It's been a rough tornado season and a new Illinois law is taking aim at that. We can all agree it's been a messy summer. In the Chicago area alone last week, there were 33 tornadoes, compared to their usual 5 or 6 per year. With the derecho that moved through last week, 5 tornadoes rolled through the QCA. In Iowa, May was ridiculous. We average 11 tornadoes in May. But this year, we had over 80 tornadoes in May alone.

Ankeny Centennial baseball star Joey Oakie has been named the Game One Player of the Year by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. Oakie, a senior pitcher, was also a repeat selection to the All-State Super Team. The squad is comprised of the state’s top 16 players regardless of class.
Frustrations Grow over John Deere Layoffs, Moving Jobs to Mexico
Earlier this summer, John Deere said it was laying off more than 600 employees at three production plants in Illinois and Iowa, as well as an unannounced number of salaried employees at its corporate level. Teen wanted for homicide in Iowa shot by US Marshals in Southern California
U.S. Marshals in Southern California on Friday shot a teen wanted for homicide in Iowa.The shooting happened at about 2:15 p.m. in the 1440 block of N. State College Boulevard in Anaheim, south of California State University, Fullerton. U.S. Marshals said they opened fire after contacting the suspect, 18-year-old Victor Antonio Delgadillo, near a Motel 6. Paramedics took two people to the hospital, one of whom was Delgadillo. He was in an unknown condition. Other than it was not a law enforcement officer, Marshals did not have information about the second person injured in the shooting.The Anaheim Police Department will handle the shooting investigation. U.S. Marshals said Delgadillo was wanted for a homicide in Marshall County, Iowa.According to reporting from the Des Moines CBS affiliate, Delgadillo allegedly shot and killed a 41-year-old man outside of a bar on June 1. Law enforcement considered him armed and dangerous.
