BUCHANAN COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) – The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) is helping young people involved in 4-H go to camp.

On Wednesday, the 4-H Cop Shop Clean-Up will take place at the sheriff’s office in Vansant.

During the event, members of the local 4-H extension will wash police and first responder vehicles from around the area.

The youths are washing the vehicles in order to obtain enough community service hours needed for scholarships to their 4-H camp held in Abingdon from July 29-August 2

Sandy Weekley Senior Agent 4-H Youth Development said the kids involved will only clean the exterior of the vehicles.

Weekley expects roughly 30-40 children from 4-H to participate in the event.

Eric Breeding of the BCSO said the event will run from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. with food at the sheriff’s office for law enforcement and the children. The Virginia State Police and Town of Grundy Police Department will also bring their vehicles and interact with the 4-H members.

Weekley told News Channel 11 the sponsors of the scholarships and the organization believe the required community service teaches the children to work for what they want.
