“9-1-1: Lone Star” is officially set to end with its upcoming Season 5 at Fox.

The final 12-episode season of the drama series is set to premiere on Sept. 23, with the series finale now set for early 2025.

Series lead Rob Lowe had previously said he expected the show to end with Season 5 in an interview with Variety back in August, but Fox had not confirmed the news until now. “We all went into it pretty much knowing that it was going to be the last season, so that affected everything we did,” Lowe said in the interview. “We wanted to really show everybody what is still possible in network television if people have the appetite to do it.”

The move to end the first responder drama comes as little surprise, as its companion series “9-1-1” moved to ABC from Fox earlier this year. Both series are produced by 20th Television, which is now a part of Disney after the 21st Century Fox-Disney merger. Fox Entertainment has been pushing since then to wholly own or co-own its shows.

“From the start, fans have followed the heroic and deeply moving stories of the men and women who make up Austin’s 126, so a huge thanks to one of the greatest creative teams in all of television — Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear — for creating one of the most action-packed dramas anywhere.” said Michael Thorn, President of Fox Television Network. “Now in our final season of the show, we’re set to give it the high-stakes send-off it deserves, complete with breathless rescues, insurmountable odds and relatable personal struggles, thanks to our incomparable, stellar cast led by Rob Lowe and Gina Torres.”

Lowe stars in “Lone Star” as Capt. Owen Strand, “a New York firefighter who, along with his adult son, relocates from Manhattan, to Austin to rebuild a firehouse which experienced a tragedy of their own,” per the official description.

The cast of the series also includes Gina Torres, Jim Parrack, Natacha Karam, Brian Michael Smith, Julian Works, Rafael Silva, and Brianna Baker.

“9-1-1: Lone Star” is produced by 20th Television in association with Ryan Murphy Television and Brad Falchuk Teley-Vision. Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear are creators, executive producers and writers on the series. Bradley Buecker is an executive producer and directed the series premiere. Rashad Raisani, John J. Gray, Angela Bassett, Lowe, Carly Soteras and Wolfe Coleman are executive producers.
