If you’re planning to visit Coney Island this weekend, keep an eye out for free vegan hot dogs! On Sunday, August 18, Plants On Wheels, a vegan non-profit organization, will be handing out hundreds of free meatless Impossible hot dogs right on the Coney Island boardwalk. This surprise pop-up will take place outside the iconic Nathan’s Famous hot dog stand.

    A Friendly and Flavorful Surprise

Nathan’s Famous recently found itself in the spotlight after hot dog-eating champ Joey Chestnut was banned from their annual eating contest for signing a contract with Impossible Foods, a leading plant-based meat alternative brand. This event provides a timely backdrop for Plants On Wheels’ mission to introduce Nathan’s fans to sustainable, animal-free alternatives.

Larry Katz of Plants On Wheels said, "There's no intention to antagonize Nathan's. Our goal is showing people they can enjoy the taste and texture of meat without using animals. Impossible Foods and other delicious vegan products are also known for being environmentally friendly."

    Spreading the Plant-Based Message

From 1 to 2pm, the organization plans to distribute 200 loaded Impossible hot dogs to boardwalk strollers. Thanks to the generosity of Impossible Foods, the public can enjoy these hot dogs at no cost, with accompanying signage and information to encourage veganism.

Plants On Wheels has a history of feeding and educating underprivileged communities about the benefits of a plant-based lifestyle. Their usual stomping ground is Washington Square Park, but this weekend, they’re taking their mission to the lively boardwalk of Coney Island.

    Join the Movement

So if you’re in Brooklyn this weekend, make sure to stop by the boardwalk, grab a tasty Impossible hot dog, and chat with the friendly team from Plants On Wheels. You might just find your new favorite snack while contributing to a more sustainable and compassionate world.
