2024 College Football Hot Takes: Big 10

I hate this conference realignment so much that I thought about skipping the Big 10 on the Hot Takes. I put my bitterness to the side and realigned the conferences myself in the East Carolina series I’m doing for the EA Sports College Football 25 game. There… now THAT is an intro paragraph, my friends, with a smooth ass plug ! Anyway…. here is your 2024 College Football Hot Takes for the Big 10. Your comments are welcome as always.

Kyle Monangai Leads The Big 10 In Rushing

I’m not saying the Rutgers back is the best back in the country but the opportunity is ripe for him to do this. I’m not sure it’s even a hot take after he had 1,262 yards last year. I really like the player, as I’ve stated last year. It’s more of a hot take because this would be back-to-back years leading the conference after adding new teams.

When you think about it, the two Ohio State guys will split work. The two Penn State guys will split work. Those four might be the best backs in the conference. If Rutgers are going to win games, it’s going to be Monangai down your throat. He’s a player that will be fun to watch, especially against the powerhouse teams. Will be one of my favorite late round backs to monitor NFL wise and has a Pacheco quality to him.

    Michigan Stinks

Stinks is a strong word. I don’t think Michigan people need to fear that this is going to be a winless Lions situation. I just think we’re going to see a BIG (get it) difference in the Michigan team we saw last year. Which is obvious considering they lost 100 guys to the NFL including their former head coach. Having Mason Graham and Will Johnson back will help but I think most people will be shocked how far of a step back they take compared to last year.

    Penn State Makes The Playoff

Is the new playoff rules more favorable to any team in the country? WE Are the model of consistency. They can’t beat the elite teams but they beat just about everybody else. They would have made the playoff numerous times if the system had been in place for the last ten years. Because the playoff exists, James Franklin will get more credit for producing the same result he’s been producing. Which by the way, let’s have a talk about that if you want to give me another click.

The Committee Considers Nebraska For The Playoff

Matt Rhule has a formula. His teams suck, then they suck less, then they’re usually pretty good. What if Nebraska turns the corner faster than we all expect? The schedule, all things considered, isn’t that brutal. This team plays real defense, brings a lot of guys back, and might just have a real quarterback with Dylan Raiola. There is going to be a team that’s in this conversation that we don’t expect. Is it impossible Nebraska finishes in the 15-19 range and are actually considered for a playoff spot?

USC Struggles But Not As Much As UCLA

I just want to wish Lincoln Riley luck in his continued pursuit to not care about defense in a conference that cares more about punting than offense. I know that doesn’t make sense but it feels like Riley is in for a rude awakening. I just don’t think it will be nearly as bad for what’s coming to UCLA. Did anybody see Deshaun Foster’s press conference ? The Bruins might get dead last.

Ohio State Loses The Conference But Wins The Playoff

Can Ohio State really get through this entire season unscathed? The elephant in the room is that Oregon and Ohio State could possibly square off three times this season. Let’s go with Ohio State wins, then loses to Oregon in the conference title game, then beats them again in the playoff. I don’t know how anybody likes this conference realignment but whatever.
