The Cleveland Guardians have been a model of consistency in the AL Central over the past several years. Largely thanks to their ability to develop and nurture talent across the board. Steven Kwan is one of the most reliable outfielders in the league, showcasing his glove and solid bat. Josh Naylor earned his first All-Star nod this year, reflecting his growth as a vital piece of the Guardians’ lineup. In the bullpen, Emmanuel Clase has solidified his status as one of the most dominant closers in the game, regularly shutting the door with his electric stuff. Also, credit to first-year skipper Steven Vogt , who had to fill the shoes of the legendary Terry Francona .

At the heart of this well-oiled machine is José Ramírez , a player who has been nothing short of extraordinary. Ramírez has consistently been the engine driving the Guardians’ success, year in and year out. Despite his consistent excellence, he often doesn’t receive the flowers he deserves as one of baseball’s elite. Ramírez has been a force to be reckoned with for more than half a decade.

The face of The Guardians

Ramírez has achieved a feat that few can match, joining the exclusive 30/30 club this season with 34 home runs and 34 stolen bases- placing 6th and 5th, respectively. This marks his fourth consecutive season with at least 20 home runs, 20 stolen bases, and 30 doubles. That rare combination of speed and power serves him well amongst the game’s best. Since 2018, Ramírez has been a mainstay within the top 10 of MVP voting, including a runner-up finish in the shortened 2020 season. Although he did not walk away with hardware, many argued he deserved to win the MVP over José Abreu .

Despite the potential for an MVP award to continue to elude Ramírez, his production and leadership make him one of the most valuable players in the game. Undoubtedly, his contributions are crucial to the Guardians’ ongoing success. Whether or not he ultimately captures an MVP trophy, Ramírez’s place among the elite players of this era is secure, and he should be celebrated as one of the true greats of his generation.

Jose Ramirez is Guardian baseball, and this is the best team in quite a few years to look truly geared to winning in October. I hope the Guardians hold their 3.5-game lead in the division from the Twins and Royals. That way, Ramirez goes on a postseason run that reminds the world just how good he is and has always been, just like Ketel Marte did last year.

Put some respect on Jose Ramirez, a top-2 third baseman in the game, and he is not number 2.
