Stephen Curry: Becoming an NBA owner in future is ‘definitely on the table’

There have been a number of former star athletes who have gotten into the ownership business, including a few notable NBA players with NBA franchises.

Michael Jordan , arguably the greatest player of all time, sold his entire stake of majority ownership of the Charlotte Hornets after being the majority owner for 13 years; Hall of Famer Grant Hill purchased a stake in the Atlanta Hawks in 2015, which he still co-owns today; Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade purchased a small stake in the Utah Jazz, which has seen impressive growth over a short period of time.

Current Golden State Warriors superstar guard Stephen Curry isn’t ruling out a future in NBA ownership, either.

“For me, that’s definitely on the table,” Curry recently told CNBC. “I think I could do a pretty good job of helping sustain how great the NBA is right now and what it takes to run a championship organization.

“I know I have a lot more to accomplish on the court before I move into other roles in the league.”

Stephen Curry signs one-year, $62.6 million extension with Warriors

Curry just signed a one-year, $63 million extension with Golden State that will keep him on contract through the 2026-27, his age-38 season. By the end of his contract, Curry will have made over $532 million just via contracts, per Spotrac; one would assume the greatest shooter ever has banked tens and hundreds of millions in endorsement and shoe money, too.

The NBA ratified an 11-year, $76 billion media rights deal last spring, opening up means for expansion. Both Shaquille O’Neal and LeBron James , apart of Fenway Sports Group, have voiced interest in owning an expansion team in Las Vegas, should that become a reality.

Could Curry initially seek a minority investment there or with another NBA franchise? Just know now that it’s in the cards, even if it’s not certain yet .
