2024 College Football Best Games Of The Week: Week 2

The 2024 college football season is underway as we are headed into Week 2. Last week provided fans with a lot of blowouts, a few close games and even a couple of upsets. This week there are better matchups overall but there are still a handful of Power Four teams against FCS teams. Furthermore, there are only two games where ranked teams will face each other. However, there is still fun to be had watching college football this Saturday. Here, are the top five college football games for week 2.

Honorable Mention : Iowa State @ No. 21 Iowa, No. 19 Kansas @ Illinois, Troy @ Memphis, South Carolina @ Kentucky

    5) Colorado @ Nebraska (7:30 p.m. ET, NBC/Peacock)

The Deion Sanders Colorado saga continues whether you love them or hate them. Now, Colorado gets a tough week two matchup with a Matt Rhule-coached Nebraska. This game should be a bit of a shoot-out between these high-powered offenses. Colorado will have another opportunity to add to QB Shadeur Sanders and WR/CB Travis Hunter ’s Heisman case with a strong win. On the other hand, Nebraska’s true freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola will have a chance to stack up a major win and lead the Cornhuskers to a 2-0 start. Raiola impressed in his debut last week but can the mini Mahomes replicate that performance on a bigger stage?

    4) No. 23 Georgia Tech @ Syracuse (12 noon ET, ACC Network)

The fireworks could start early on Saturday as the college window opens up with Georgia Tech vs Syracuse. Georgia Tech is ranked after two impressive wins, although that Florida State win is not aging well. However, QB Haynes King and RB Jamal Haynes have been a terrific duo for the Yellow Jackets. This will be a good test for Georgia Tech to see if they have any chance against later ACC matchups. Syracuse is led by former Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord . He threw for 354 yards and four touchdowns in his debut with the Orange. This game is a great opportunity for McCord to prove he can still be a top college quarterback. Finally, Syracuse will have a real shot to take down a ranked opponent in front of their home crowd.

    3) No. 14 Tennessee @ No. 24 NC State (7:30 p.m. ET, ABC/ESPN+)

There is a clear A-side and B-side to this matchup. Quarterback Nico Lamaleava is an extremely talented red-shirt freshman leading another solid Volunteers squad. Tennessee looks poised to have another terrific offense as RB Dylan Sampson had three touchdowns in week one and WR Dont’e Thornton Jr. finished with 105 yards and two scores. However, NC State’s defense is no joke as that has been their bread and butter in recent years. The Wolfpack can cause some chaos for the young quarterback. Also, NC State has veteran Coastal Carolina transfer Grayson McCall under center and an impressive weapon in WR Kevin Concepcion . The Wolfpack should be able to give the Volunteers some issues on Saturday. However, this will be an opportunity for Tennessee to record a ranked win and begin to establish their position in the expanded college football playoff.

    2) Boise State @ No. 7 Oregon (10 p.m. ET, Peacock)

This is probably the game I’m looking forward to most on Saturday. Oregon had a weird week one which they underwhelmed in a close win against Idaho. However, as a lot of people’s favorite to be in the National Championship, they will need a statement win on Saturday. Oklahoma transfer Dillon Gabriel played well last week but it did not show up on the scoreboard. Now, it will be interesting to see if Gabriel can get Oregon to look like an elite high-powered offense similar to head coach Dan Lanning’s Oregon offenses of the past couple of years. The other main draw of this matchup is Boise State superstar running back Ashton Jeanty . He ran for 267 yards and six touchdowns last week. Another explosive performance on Saturday will make him the front-runner for the Doak Walker Award and the Heisman Trophy.

2025 NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 1

    1) No. 3 Texas @ No. 10 Michigan (12 noon ET, Fox)

There was never a doubt what the number one spot would be for the 2024 college football week 2 slate. Texas vs Michigan is an amazing matchup it’s even better in week two compared to the other games. This game is filled with stars on both sides of the ball for both teams. Texas played phenomenally in their week one game now it will be interesting to see if QB Quinn Ewers can move the ball against a stout Michigan defense. The Wolverines struggled on offense last game and now they have to face one of the best defenses in college football. Here is a quick list of players to keep an eye on, Michigan’s CB Will Johnson , RB Donovan Edwards and TE Colston Loveland as well as Texas’ OL Kelvin Banks jr, DB Jahdae Barron and RB Jerrick Gibson. This is an incredible game with big college football playoff implications and thankfully it will be played at The Big House.
