VENICE — The Pedaling Pelicans of Pelican Pointe left the state for their most recent trip, riding the barrier islands in Georgia from April 14 to 17.

Seven couples rode paths on Jekyll Island and St. Simons Island that took them along beaches, through forests and past sites including historic Horton House, the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, Fort Frederica National Monument, the World War II Museum and the St. Simons Lighthouse.

Three couples also visited St. Mary’s Island and Cumberland Island National Seashore, where they explored the Dungeness Ruins, the remains of a mansion built in the 1880s by Pittsburgh industrialist Thomas Carnegie on the site of a mansion of the same name built in 1803 by Catharine Greene, the widow of Revolutionary War Gen. Nathaniel Greene.
