Venice Theatre and Wellen Park are thrilled to announce that they are now working together to bring arts education directly to residents and visitors of Wellen Park.

Solis Hall in Downtown Wellen Park is hosting several theater classes for adults, which are scheduled into August 2024.

Venice Theatre Executive Director Kristofer Geddie says this is just the beginning of what will become a longterm relationship with the growing Wellen Park community.

“We know that folks from the array of Wellen Park neighborhoods visit Venice Theatre for entertainment and some have taken classes with us,” he said, “but the potential for more engagement is boundless.”

Of the new partnership, Wellen Park President Rick Severance said, “This resilient community theater — which suffered near-catastrophic damage from Hurricane Ian — has so much to offer its neighbors here on the Gulf Coast. We understand that space at the theater is limited while the main building is being restored. Wellen Park has space and the need to infuse that space with exciting opportunities that enhance the lifestyle of our residents and visitors. This is a win-win.”

The following classes have been scheduled:

¦ Drop In Improv with Spencer Cross

    5-7 p.m. June 25, July 10 and Aug. 1. Tuition: $39 per class.

This Thursday evening “drop-in” improv class for adults is a whole lot of fun! It caters to any and all experience levels with specially crafted improv games, warm-ups and exercises. Increase confi- dence, decrease anxiety and find community. Must be registered by noon two days prior to class.

¦ A Complete History of Musical Theater Abridged (with visuals)

6 p.m. beginning June 3 and running for seven weeks. Instructor: Kristofer Geddie. Tuition: $175.

In this Monday night theater appreciation class, exposure to the highlights and lowlights of musical theater over the past 285 years awaits. Students can expect seven weeks of a fast-paced romp through America’s truest art form — served through audio clips, video clips, anecdotes and lots of discussion.

All classes take place at Solis Hall, 19745 Wellen Park Blvd., Wellen Park. Advanced registration is required.

For more information or to register, see www.VeniceTheatre.org/education or call 941-486-8679.

Venice Theatre and Wellen Park expect to announce additional arts education opportunities in the near future.
