WELLEN PARK — A new school is coming to Wellen Park, and this time, it’s for preschoolers.

Primrose Schools, an early learning center for infants through kindergarteners, announced the location of its first area school on 19760 Market Way in Downtown Wellen, near the Wellen Park Welcome Center, in a news release Wednesday.

The 13,500-square-foot Primrose School at Wellen Park will feature 12 classrooms and accommodate up to 204 children.

The school will also have gardening and nature activities outside in the Primrose Patch garden, according to the news release.

Katherine Cunningham, a 20-year veteran in early childcare, was named as the daily operations manager for staffing and human resources.

The school will also offer before- and after-school care and a full-day summer learning program for kindergarten through fifth grade students.

Primrose Schools offers a “research-based balanced learning curriculum” designed to instill what officials say is an “early love of learning” beginning in infancy. The program blends purposeful play and encourages curiosity, creativity, confidence and compassion.

Officials said construction begins later this year, with an anticipated opening in early 2025.

Wellen Park expressed its excitement for both a new childcare option and educational job opportunities.

“We’re pleased to expand childcare and early education options for the growing number of parents with young children in Wellen Park and the greater community,” Wellen Park President Rick Severance said.

Primrose Schools Chief Development Officer Nick Koros said the new development will make Wellen Park the “complete experience,” with childcare adding to the variety of housing options, job opportunities, retailers and restaurants already in play at the fast-growing neighborhood.

“Wellen Park is a vibrant and growing master-planned community,” Koros said. “Primrose School at Wellen Park serves as an anchor business and critical on-site community to provide a vital need for local residents.”

Built in 1982, Primrose Schools is a franchise-based company that currently has 31 of its 500 locations in Florida.
