SARASOTA — Sarasota County announced details for a “One Stop” administration building for residents during a groundbreaking event Friday.

The “One Stop” facility will concentrate departments concerned with the review and permitting of projects in North Sarasota County, including Planning and Zoning, Environmental Protection, Building and Code Enforcement departments.

Planning and Development Services said the $28.2 million building will incorporate the five divisions of the department, including Property Management, Planning and Zoning, Environmental Protection, Building and Code Enforcement.

Officials said the One Stop building will also serve residents during the recovery phase after a hurricane or other natural disaster event as the operations center for the damage assessment team.

The 55,600-square-foot building will contain general office space, including technology advancements, customer service areas, conference areas and training rooms.

The PDS administration, Neighborhood Services staff and the Development Review Coordination team will also operate out of the One Stop.

PDS Director Matt Osterhoudt said the new building will improve overall functionality and provide a true “One Stop” experience for community members.

“We take great pride in creating spaces where everyone can flourish, community members and staff together and we prioritize serving the community members of Sarasota County doing our best to provide more living options for our residents,” Osterhoudt said.

The One Stop building is at 870 Apex Road, an 6.5-acre site neighboring the Sarasota County Fire Station No. 8.

Officials said early design site work began in April, with construction scheduled to be completed by fall of 2025.
