Pittsford Named in Hottest Zip Code Report, Consumers Pining for Closer Commutes and Affordability

Realtor.com has been releasing the annual "Hottest Zip Code Report" for quite some time. However, for the first time in quite a while, consumers are veering away from large metropolitan areas in favor of their surrounding suburban towns. This new trend seems to be a sign of the times when people are starting to prioritize their personal time and finances far more than they have in the past.

    The details of the report

The annual report revealed that in 2023, consumers are more interested in purchasing homes in suburban areas that are located near larger metropolitan cities. These areas also offer larger homes and yards and more affordable price points.

Here is the list in order:

    1. 43230, Gahanna, Ohio
    2. 06489, Southington, Conn.
    3. 07450, Ridgewood, N.J.
    4. 01810, Andover, Mass.
    5. 18064, Nazareth, Pa.
    6. 46322, Highland, Ind.
    7. 48183, Trenton, Mich.
    8. 06851, Norwalk, Conn.
    9. 14534, Pittsford, N.Y.
    10. 63021, Ballwin, Mo.

The town of Pittsford ranked number nine on the list. This is presumably because it is located near Rochester and other surrounding suburbs while also offering lots of space and greater affordability than many other areas in the country.

    The future of real estate

As the working world continues to change and many employees are increasingly being called back to work throughout the day and/or have hybrid work schedules, many employees prefer to live in locations that are closer to their places of employment, making it faster, easier, and less expensive to get to work.

Additionally, since we are presently in a seller's market where real estate prices are in the 6-7% range, prospective homebuyers are looking for more bang for their buck. Areas such as Pittsford offer far more space for less money. In particular, the places on the list offer homes that are 24.7% lower than the U.S. median.

With increased demands for city properties, many consumers find suburban areas to be the happy medium. Rather than getting into bidding wars over properties within the city limits, more homebuyers have set their sights on semi-remote locations that give them access to major cities while providing them with comfort and cost-effectiveness.
