Wild West Watercross bringing jet skiing to Sparks Marina
SPARKS, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — Closed course jet skiing is coming to the Sparks Marina this weekend. Wild West Watercross is based in Northern California, and hosts jet skiing events throughout California and Nevada. The group's website describes them as "the new frontier of safe, fun and affordable watercraft racing for racers, by racers."

The 68th annual Tevis Cup comes back to Auburn this weekend, as 143 riders and their trusted steeds come to the endurance capital in hopes of earning a coveted belt buckle. Riders will begin their journey Saturday morning at Robie Park in Truckee and end at McCann Stadium at the Gold Country Fairgrounds, 100 miles away.
Nevada baseball’s JR Freethy selected by Blue Jays in MLB Draft
RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - Nevada outfielder JR Freethy has been selected by the Toronto Blue Jays with the 427th overall pick of the 2024 MLB Draft. Freethy joins fellow Wolf Pack baseball player Jason Doktorczyk in the MLB. Doktorczyk was taken in the ninth round of the draft by the Minnesota Twins.

Mac Meissner leads PGA Tour’s Barracuda Championship at Tahoe Mountain Club
TRUCKEE, Calif. (AP) — Mac Meissner had eight birdies in a 16-point round Friday to take the second-round lead in the Barracuda Championship, the only PGA Tour event that uses the modified Stableford scoring system. Making his 23rd PGA Tour start, Meissner birdied five of his first seven holes and capped the round with a 17-foot birdie putt on the par-4 ninth on Tahoe Mountain Club’s Old Greenwood layout. Meissner had 26 points for a one-point lead over J.J. Spaun, with players receiving eight points for a double eagle, five for eagle and two for birdie. A point is deducted for bogey and three for double bogey. Spaun had a 13-point day. He won the 2022 Texas Open for his only PGA Tour title.

TACOMA, WA – The Tacoma Rainiers (52-42) won the opener over the Reno Aces (49-44) by a score of 5-4, Friday at Cheney Stadium. Albert Almora Jr. got the Aces on the board with a two-run double in the second inning following two infield singles. They padded their lead in the fifth on a solo home run from Pavin Smith to go up 3-0.

RHP Casey Lawrence (5-7, 6.20) vs. RHP Cristian Mena (3-2, 5.08) TONIGHT’S GAME: Tacoma and Reno will play game one of their three-game series tonight, with both teams resuming play after their four-day All-Star Break. The Rainiers will send right-hander Casey Lawrence to the mound, looking to bounce back after his last start at Albuquerque. The veteran allowed 11 earned runs on 10 hits and four walks, giving up two home runs while striking out two batters over 4.1 innings pitched. Those numbers raised his season numbers on the year to a 5-7 record and a 6.20 ERA through 17 starts entering play tonight. He has allowed 68 earned runs on 124 hits and 28 walks, striking out 70 in 98.2 total innings for Tacoma this year. Opposite Lawrence will be Cristian Mena toeing the rubber for the Aces, also making his 18th start of the season. Coming into tonight’s game, Mena is 3-2 with a 5.08 ERA, allowing 48 earned runs on 92 hits and 40 walks, striking out 91 batters in 85.0 innings. He has made three starts against Tacoma this year and is 0-0 with a 7.47 ERA in those games, giving up 13 earned runs on 16 hits and seven walks while striking out 17 over 15.2 innings.
