Vermilion County Unemployment Shows First Increase in Four Months; Danville Holds Steady
For the first time in four months, statistics from the Illinois Department of Employment Security are showing a step backwards for the overall jobs picture in Vermilion County. The latest numbers show Vermilion County’s unemployment rate increasing from 5.3% in April to 5.6% in May. Vermilion County’s rate was 5.5% in May of 2023.

DG5K Run/Walk for Area Boy Scout Troops, in Memory of Dwayne Gettleman, Starts at BHRA High School Saturday Morning
A special 5K run/walk event is set for this coming Saturday morning (June 29th), starting and ending at Bismarck-Henning Rossville-Alvin High School. The DG5K is in memory of Dwayne Gettleman, who passed away of pancreatic cancer in 2001. His son Kody Gettleman, a Danville firefighter, wanted to do something that would both honor his dad, as well as support area Boy Scout Troops; and this event began last year.
