Boys prep soccer: Ryle Raiders’ summer of transition and promise
Following the conclusion of this week’s tryouts, Ryle coach Stephen Collins is gearing up for the boys’ first soccer practice of the season on Monday at Borland Stadium in Union. The team, a two-time defending 9th Region champion, is setting its sights on a fourth regional title in five years. The program boasts over 70 players across three levels: varsity, junior varsity and freshman.
Crushers slow to get going after break, fall to Florence
AVON — Call it an All-Star break hangover if you will, but Crushers manager Jared Lemieux figures his team will be back battling today. After time off for the All-Star Game on Tuesday, Lake Erie lost to Florence 6-3 on Friday night in front of 3,762 fans, one of the Crushers' larger crowds of the season. The Crushers (37-21) remain just 1½ games behind Washington in the Frontier League West Division standings.
