(WIVT/WBGH) – A SUNY Broome grad came in second place in a national competition for the student pastry chef of the year.

Recent graduate of Broome’s hospitality department, Jewelia Ralston, was one of just four candidates in the country who competed for the award in Arizona earlier this month.

Ralston had to create two dishes, one is served hot and the other served cold. She was given 75 minutes to cook, and the judging was based on taste, waste level, and incorporating each ingredient.

Ralston took home second place and was awarded a silver medal from the American Culinary Federation.
