A day after completing her “redemption tour,” taking home three gold medals and one silver, Biles revealed to her following that she felt her body “slowly starting to shut down” ahead of her final routines.
In a prerecorded “Get Ready With Me” video, the historic 27-year-old gymnast opened up about feeling fatigue and strain on her body as she reached the end of the Paris games.
“I’m really tired. I feel like my body is slowly starting to shut down, like it’s ready to be done,” she said as she did her makeup. “But tomorrow I compete in the last two finals there are for women’s gymnastics so I will be doing beam and floor. Which [I’m] so excited about never doing a floor routine again.”
Despite her weary body, the most decorated gymnast of all time showed gratitude to her fans for sticking beside her every step of the way — including the 2016 Rio Olympics and 2021 Tokyo Olympics. She admitted that she never thought she’d be competing again.
“I’ve achieved more than my wildest dreams,” she beamed. “You know, I never thought I was going to be competing again because that’s how terrified I was of gymnastics and twisting. There’s a lot of trauma there, so I’ve had to put in a lot of work . But shout out to my therapist, and shout out to therapy.”
Biles recalled experiencing the “twisties” while competing on the apparatus at the Tokyo Olympics. This occurs when a gymnast has a mental block midair, causing them to lose perception of their body — which can result in serious injury.
However, when asked if she plans to compete in the 2028 U.S.A. Olympics, Biles told reporters , “Never say never.”
She added, “But I am getting really old.”
