Troy Ave lived up to his 2021 album title God Is Great Paper Straight this week. The 38-year-old rapper celebrated his early release from Rikers Island Prison after serving time for attempted criminal possession of a weapon.

The Brooklyn rapper shared an Instagram photo of him posing outside in front of Rikers while standing next to a red Lamborghini with a bag of money and a box of expensive liquor. “Ya Boi Home!!” he wrote in the caption.

The “All About The Money” rapper was sentenced to a year in prison in February 2024 for his involvement in the 2016 shooting at Irving Plaza that claimed the life of his bodyguard, Ronald “Banga” McPhatter.

Troy Ave pled guilty to a 2nd-degree attempted criminal possession of a weapon charge, which required him to serve at least eight months in prison. However, since Ave had served two months before making bail, he only had six months remaining. Taxstone, the man whose fingerprints and DNA were found on the gun, was sentenced to 35 years in prison last March after being found guilty of manslaughter.

“Alright, y’all, they might cheat me, you might not see me for a while,” Ave said on Instagram before heading into his sentencing. “But just know the streets is a myth. All them people that was in the car with me, I end up taking the guns. Somebody shot at me, and instead of laying down and dying, I’d have been a hero, a martyr, I took the gun and bust back.”

Ave willingly accepted the consequences of his actions and had a positive outlook as he prepared for whatever was coming. “And there you have it. Here go the consequences,” he said. “But we don’t cry over spilt milk. We take the lemons and make lemonade. God is great, and the paper’s straight. Y’all keeps it cool. Y’all keep running it up. Send the prayers up. Prayers count more than anything.”
