KRS-One has criticized Hip-Hop’s seeming lack of support for late DJ and artist Fatman Scoop throughout his career while reacting to his death.

During an appearance on 97.9’s The Box , The Blastmaster expressed his disappointment in Fatman Scoop being spoken of with reverence in comparison to the fanfare and accolades he received prior to his passing.

“It’s a shame we’re talking about him in this way,” KRS stated, chiding the culture with failing to actively uplift its most devoted practitioners. “Hip-Hop gotta stop doing that. Only when dudes pass, that’s when they get on.”

The Boogie Down Productions leader continued, adding that the public “should’ve been looking at Fatman Scoop when his career was blowing up.”

When asked if other genres celebrate artists who have passed in an honorable manner, KRS-One shot down the question, voicing his disregard while declaring his only concern being matters pertaining to Hip-Hop.

“Other genres suck,” the Bronx native remarked. “We don’t give a f**k about them. Hip-Hop runs sh*t.”

This is far from the first time that the rap legend has lashed out against his own for their seeming disregard of the traditional tenets of Hip-Hop. While speaking on a panel at the 2023 ESSENCE Festival, KRS-One deemed rap artists today as “traitors” due to their style of music, amid other factors.

“What people call rap or Hip-Hop today is a disgrace to our culture,” the 59-year-old said at the time. “An absolute betrayal, disrespect and a disgrace… If you know what original Hip-Hop is all about and you choose to do the opposite, you a traitor.”
