A man who fled to South Carolina after stabbing his wife to death admitted his crime Monday before the case went to trial. Charles Rocker, 56, pleaded guilty to one count of murder in Franklin County Common Pleas Court. Judge Chris Brown sentenced Rocker to life in prison without the possibility of parole for 15 years.

Some Ohio lawmakers want to ease indoor smoking restrictions for cigar lounges despite Ohio's smoking ban. Rep. Richard Dell'Aquila, D-Seven Hills, and Rep. Rep. Adam Mathews, R-Lebanon, are supporting House Bill 530 which would provide cigar lounges with an exemption from 2006's Smoke Free Workplace Act. Currently, cigar lounges can allow indoor smoking if 80% or more of their sales come from cigars or cigar products. The legislation would lower that to 15%. ...

Family of murdered couple speaks at defendants' sentencing
Eighteen months after the murders of Malinda Moore, 28, and Brent Roscoe, 36, their families had a chance to address two women involved in their deaths. Fourteen family members filled the spectators’ seats in the Lucas County Common Pleas courtroom of Judge Ian English for the sentencings Monday of Riley Franke and Camryn Chase. In April, Franke pleaded guilty to burglary and robbery and Chase pleaded guilty to two counts of murder. Judge English sentenced Franke, 20, of the 2300 block of Starr Avenue in Oregon, to 13 to 16 years in prison and Chase, 24, of the 500 block of Leach Avenue in Toledo, to two consecutive life terms with parole eligibility after 30 years. Chase faced more severe charges for her role as a planner and for actually entering the house to carry out the Nov. 10, 2022, robbery and murders. She did not, however, pull the trigger that killed the young couple. Their shooter, Prince Jones, 24, died in a shootout with police in East Toledo several hours after the crime.

TPD, prosecutors file additional charge against man bitten by K-9 during traffic stop
TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - Toledo police and prosecutors have filed an additional charge for against the man who was bitten by a K-9 during a traffic stop in April. The charge filed against Brandon Upchurch is for Failure to Comply with the Order or Signal of a Police Officer. The new charge, which has not been finalized, comes three months after the K-9 was released on him.
