    100 Years Ago: 1924
    Elizabeth Bullett was out following an illness. • The Rev. T.B. Cottrell conducted jail services. • Carrie Lewis was ill. • George Hollis, outfielder, joined the local baseball team. • Supervisor Tom Mackey was ill.

    90 Years Ago: 1934
    A new Piggly Wiggly store was opened on Washington Street. • Caroline Billitz died. • S.N. Mackey and Emma Worthy were married.

    80 Years Ago: 1944
    Mrs. William Bates left to join her husband in D.C. • Lt. Touphie Habeeb was in Vicksburg visiting family. • Kate Magruder returned from a visit to Memphis.

    70 Years Ago: 1954
    Lt. Vernon Tirey, stationed at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, was in Vicksburg visiting. • Ida Mae Hood enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps.

    60 Years Ago: 1964
    Max Homburger passed away. • E.E. Moody was visiting in Laurel and Hattiesburg. • J.D. Johnson died. • Mr.and Mrs. Herbert Williams announced the birth of their daughter, Dena.

    50 Years Ago: 1974
    Colton Smith Jr., a retired employee of the U.S. Corps of Engineers, died. • Mr. and Mrs. S.C.Craft Jr. were the parents of a son, Todd.

    40 Years Ago: 1984
    Sue A Clark died. • Police Chief A.J. Holliday inspected the rotor of the police helicopter after a storm dropped baseball-sized hail on it. • Joey Daniels displayed a six-pound bass he caught at a private lake near Edwards.
