    100 Years Ago: 1924

    Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Street and their daughters were visiting Dr. and Mrs. George Street. • Richard Howard became a candidate for city commissioner.  • Mary Idalie Schultz passed away.

    90 Years Ago: 1934

    Eliza D. Henderson celebrated her 88th birthday. • Mrs. Steve Spengler of Kansas City was visiting Mr. and Mrs. Albert T. Spengler. • Mrs. P.J. Williams of the Culkin community was ill.

    80 Years Ago: 1944

    Mrs. J.H. Brabston, a former resident, died in Clarksdale. • Corp. and Mrs. Oswald Biedenharn announced the birth of a daughter. • Mrs. Gann Williamson was visiting in New Orleans.

    70 Years Ago: 1954

    Mrs. R.P. Jones passed away. • Dr. J.C. McGuire resigned from being head of the Warren County Health Department. • Roy Dale, a Tallulah resident, died in Vicksburg. • Services were held for Louis Allen Brown.

    60 Years Ago: 1964

    Roy V. Smith died. • Services were held for H.C. Carothers. • Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Davidson announced the birth of their daughter, Debra.

    50 Years Ago: 1974

    Services were held for Martha Price Broome, owner of Broome’s Flowers. • Bill Collins was named regional manager for Capitol Corporation’s Western Mississippi Region. • Eddie Mayfield, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Mayfield, won the Outstanding Student award at his high school in Los Angeles.

    40 Years Ago: 1984

    Michael Jenkins died. • Dr. Jennifer Hicks and Sherry Fisher were the guest speakers for the Vicksburg Benevolent Homecoming Club gathering. • Albert Hossley became the state president of the Industrial Education Service Association for the 1984 school year.

    30 Years Ago: 1994

    Low-income residents received free eye exams from the Morr-Sight van that was parked next to the old Jackson Street YMCA building.

    20 Years Ago: 2004

    The Turner-Willis family held a family reunion picnic at The Ranch on Nailor Road.

    10 Years Ago: 2014

    Fireworks were expected to draw a huge crowd downtown on the Fourth of July. • Cannons roared back to life at Battery De Goyler.
