Victoria College offering free Drone program

VICTORIA, Texas (AP) — Victoria College is offering area high school students a second opportunity to learn to fly a drone with a one-week academy scheduled for July 22-26. The academy is open to students entering grades 9-12 with a recent report card reflecting an A or B higher in math and science.

There is no cost for accepted students, as project costs are supported entirely by a Governor’s Summer Merit Program (GSMP) grant awarded to Victoria College by the Texas Workforce Commission.

Certificates of completion were awarded to 21 high school students who completed Victoria College’s two-week Drone Pilot Academy on June 20 at VC’s Main Campus. Participants learned about safe and legal drone operations through classroom instruction, hands-on flying sessions, and guest presentations.

Applications will be accepted through Wednesday, July 17 at DronePilotAcademy.VictoriaCollege.edu .
