A twin-engine plane crashed at Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport in Vienna Township, Ohio, Friday, killing all three people on board.

The crash happened at 6:45 p.m., the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement.

The pilot and two passengers died, the Ohio State Highway Patrol post in Trumbull County told The Associated Press. While the families of the victims have been notified, authorities haven't released the identities of the deceased to the public.

The FAA told Youngstown CBS affiliate WKBN-TV that the plane took off from Plattsburgh International Airport in New York, but didn't specify its planned final destination.

The victims were a man, woman and child hailing from New York, according to the Tribune Chronicle of Warren, Ohio.

The National Transportation Safety Board told WKBN that the pilot reported a loss of engine power.

Western Reserve Port Authority Executive Director Anthony Trevena corroborated that report, telling the Tribune Chronicle the plane apparently suffered a failure of its left engine and that the pilot missed an initial approach to land, then lost control and crashed on a second attempt.

    The WRPA operates the airport.
