Stream NYC screamo band OLTH's new two-song single
OLTH have been building a reputation as one of NYC’s best newer screamo bands, thanks in part to their wild live show (I caught them with Liturgy at TV Eye last year and it was batshit), and their recordings are just getting better and better too. They’re following their 2023 debut LP every day is sOmeOne’s speciaL day with a new two-song single, “fire dOve / xO,” and these are two of their strongest, most musically-varied songs yet. They’ve got their harsh, screeching, caustic screamo down pat, and they also branch off into heavy/beautiful post-metal territory on the climactic “fire dOve” and tread some Slint-like waters on “xO.”

Last week, the Memphis Grizzlies opted to move on from their 2021 lottery-selected wing, Ziaire Williams via trade with the Brooklyn Nets. Brighton, UK punks Lambrini Girls are on tour with Amyl and the Sniffers‘ now, and while in they were in the NYC-area for Amyl’s Jersey City show on Saturday, they stopped in Brooklyn for a headlining show at The Sultan Room on Friday night (7/19). Vocalist and guitarist Phoebe Lunny wasted no time in hopping offstage and riling up the crowd, and they were met with roars of approval as they led everyone in call-and-response shoutalongs to free Palestine, fuck TERFS, fuck Trump, fuck Biden, and fuck the police. Their set was a whole lot of fun in addition to being staunchly political, even working in a limbo competition.
