Habitat for Humanity strives to close racial homeownership gaps in the U.S.
CHICO, Calif. — Systematic discrimination has persisted in many forms throughout history, including within the United States housing market. Across the U.S., black families are less likely to own their own homes than white families according to Habitat For Humanity. This can be a result of multiple factors from redlining to unequal access to mortgage credit. Which ultimately has historically created barriers to saving for a down payment, getting a loan, and affording a home. Habitat for Humanity has actively been working to close that homeownership gap.
