KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Vincennes man will spend 3 years in the Indiana Department of Correction’s Work Release program and 3 years under probation after pleading guilty to shooting a person during a domestic argument in 2022.

James A. Finley appeared in Knox County Circuit Court on Tuesday for a change of plea and sentencing hearing. Judge Monica Carpenter Gilmore accepted Finley’s guilty plea involving a level 5 felony charge of domestic battery by means of a deadly weapon.

The charge stems from the events of December 16, 2022 when Vincennes Police were called to a residence in the 1500 block of Joice Street for a report that a male subject had been shot. Police would discover the person had been shot in the leg following an argument with Finley.

Tuesday, Judge Gilmore handed down a sentence of six years, with three to be served under the Department of Corrections work release, and three served in probation. Additionally, Finley must have no contact with the victim.
