VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Officials say a new childcare center coming soon to Vincennes will help meet a need for more pre-K options.

The Vincennes YMCA announced on Thursday it received a $321,834 capital project matching grant from Indiana United Ways, in partnership with United Way of Knox County.

The money will support the building of a new childcare space called the Little Alice Learning Center. It will be in the Vincennes YMCA building. It will be operated by Vincennes Community Schools and serve children ages 3 to 5.

“It all starts with the fundamental building blocks of that child’s education, whether it be improving their math skills or just that social interaction that children have in a group dynamic,” said Dennis Kordes, Vincennes YMCA CEO.

Finishing touches on the center are now underway with classes expected to begin in August.
