Covina to Begin Construction on Recreation Village
Covina is undergoing a bit of a multimodal renaissance: first a new skatepark, then the Vincent Bikeway (in progress), and up next the Recreation Village on Citrus Avenue. The ambitious project fits lots of great features into a challenging narrow site - a former fruit packing warehouse - just east of Downtown Covina’s Metrolink station.
Taste of Arcadia returns to Santa Anita Park
For the first time since 2019, Taste of Arcadia returns to Santa Anita Park. Presented by the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce, this Arcadia favorite will host 45 local food and drink vendors from the San Gabriel Valley, more than 20 business booths, entertainment, cars, and much more. LA homeless encampment cleanups provide only temporary relief, report says
The city of Los Angeles' attempt to get as many unhoused Angelenos off the streets and into housing isn't working, according to a recent study.In findings published earlier this month, the nonprofit Rand corporation studied three areas in Los Angeles - Hollywood, Venice and Skid Row - between 2021 and 2023. Data showed that the unhoused population stabilized over that period, while the annual rate of growth was approximately 10% in prior years.However, the study showed encampments removed in these areas were re-populated within two to three months on average. Council Hears, Discusses Update on Kaiser Permante Property
City officials are still working to reach an agreement with LA County to provide mental health and homeless services at a former Kaiser Permanente site. In April 2023, the City took formal ownership of the site at Lake Avenue and Villa Street. Kaiser Permanente vacated the property more than 10 years ago and it has sat empty ever since.
