VINEMONT, Ala. – What could have been the whole of the town of South Vinemont flooded the Vinemont Sportsplex on Sunday night, June 30, as the municipality, along with Vinemont Baptist Church, held the third annual Fourth of July Celebration.

Each year, the event grows larger, and community involvement soars. This year, a group of participants hosted a prayer session before the show. The group of strangers and friends came together before the grand celebration to pray for the country’s leaders, state and local governments.

The Town-sponsored event was a communitywide hit. Vehicles and viewers lined the whole of the Sportsplex, with pickup trucks with families in beds and a parking lot with huddled groups seated on blankets to watch the spectacle. The ball fields inside were littered with chairs, blankets and placeholders of the owners who had already found the perfect viewpoint and wandered off to participate in the night’s family fun offerings.

It touted a mobile arcade filled to the brim with stationary arcade-style video games, classic console setups and two massive bounce houses, one with a gigantic pirate ship-themed slide attached. Guests and viewers set up cornhole and ring toss games, and food trucks from Fro’z Shaved Ice and The Butcher’s Chuck Wagon surrounded the entrance to the site.

At 9 p.m. exactly, the first shot of the more than 30-minute show was ignited, showering the awed crowd in colors of red, white and blue. Children laughed and cheered with each bone-shaking burst and squealed with delight each time a sparkler sizzled out.

On behalf of the council, Town Clerk Kayecea Sasser said, “We would like to thank Vinemont Baptist Church, Fro’z Shaved Ice, The Butcher Chuck Wagon (and) Bouncers of Cullman for all your hard work to make such a successful event for our community Fourth of July event. Thanks to everyone who came out to watch and we hope to see you all next year.”
