NWS Sacramento also cautions an elevated fire weather risk due to the blistering heat and dry landscape.

Sacramento County stops water deliveries to homeless encampments
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento County is no longer delivering water to homeless encampments during what could become a historic heat wave. According to both the city and county of Sacramento, this was always going to happen . Sacramento County said water deliveries were always going to end, because they were funded by American Rescue Plan Dollars that no longer exist. The funds were part of a contract with SANE to distribute drinking water to encampments, as part of the COVID-19 public health crisis, for the last four years. The pandemic is over and large encampments no longer exist.

2 critically injured in Northern California mine shaft explosion
PLACER COUNTY — Two people suffered critical injuries in an explosion inside a Northern California mine shaft, officials said Friday.The Foresthill Fire Protection District said it happened shortly after 9:40 a.m. at a mine shaft along Mosquito Ridge Road at Gorman Ranch Road in Placer County.Personnel with the Foresthill district and the U.S. Forest Service located the two people outside of the mine shaft. They were then airlifted to Sutter Roseville Trauma Center.The Foresthill fire district said the Mine Safety and Health Administration was taking the lead on the investigation. The mine will remain closed until an inspection can be done.
