Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Governor Youngkin has ordered all Virginian and American flags to fly at half-staff on Friday, May 31 in remembrance of the 12 people shot and killed in the 2019 mass shooting in Virginia Beach.

The incident took place five years ago today at Building 2 of the Virginia Beach Municipal Center. Twelve people were shot and killed while at work.

In a May 30 order, the governor ordered all state and local buildings to lower flags to half-staff on May 31 from sunrise to sunset, “in memory and respect of the victims."

“In accordance with the authority vested in me as Governor, I hereby order that the flags of the United States of America, and the Commonwealth of Virginia be flown at half-staff on all state and local buildings and grounds in the Commonwealth of Virginia in memory and respect of the victims of the shooting at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center,” the order said.
