Country music legend Willie Nelson announced on Wednesday that he will not perform at a scheduled tour stop in Virginia Beach, according to a message posted on his Facebook page.
The cancellation follows Nelson's previous withdrawal from initial performances on his Outlaw Music Festival Tour due to illness last week. Nelson, who turned 91 in April, was advised by doctors to rest.
"We regret to inform you that Willie Nelson is not feeling well and, per doctor's orders, has been advised to rest for the next four days," stated a social media post on June 21. "He is expected to make a quick recovery and join the Outlaw Music Festival tour next week."
The Outlaw Music Festival, partially founded by Nelson, began its tour in Georgia. Nelson missed this performance under doctor's orders.
On Wednesday, the singer confirmed the latest cancellation. "Willie Nelson will not be performing at tonight's show in Virginia Beach," the Facebook post read. "We expect Willie to return to the tour shortly."
Despite Nelson's absence, the Outlaw Music Festival will feature performances from other notable artists, including Bob Dylan, Robert Plant, Alison Krauss, and Celisse. Nelson's son, Lukas Nelson, and his band of family members will also perform, covering some of Nelson's classics.
At 91, Nelson remains active, releasing new music, touring, and collaborating with major artists. He released an album in May titled "The Border," made appearances on Beyoncé's "Cowboy Carter" country album , and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame last year, where he performed with Chris Stapleton, Sheryl Crow, and Dave Matthews.
"I haven't quit," Nelson told " CBS Mornings " last year. "Maybe I should, but after every tour, I say this is it. And then I get the urge to go back."
