Colonial America past enters the future

According to Haunted Pubs and Taverns, during Colonial days, merchants from all over the world sold their goods at the Market Square in Williamsburg, which became the town's trading center in the mid-1700s. This boom in commerce led to a petition for a market tavern, which was established in 1749.

The now historic Market Square Tavern was established. The Market Square Tavern is one of eighty-eight original buildings still around and it’s open to guests who wish to experience an authentic colonial-era atmosphere. And Colonial-era ghosts!

Unexplained sounds and sightings have been reported

Unexplained sounds have been reported when the tavern was empty, and spirits from the past have appeared so natural that guests thought they were humans reenacting history.

The Greek Revival Church next to the tavern saw many horrors during the Civil War, including amputations and burials of the dead. Guest have reported cries of anguish, heard tapping sounds, and cries of distress have been recorded.
