Flipper led to a love of dolphins

During the 1960s, Americans fell in love with Flipper the Dolphin in two feature films and a television show. These magnificent sea animals continue to fascinate and captivate today.

Dolphins cannot be classified as hibernating because they must come up from the water for air. However, Wildlife Facts shows they have fantastic migration patterns as they travel seasonally through the ocean.

    Dolphins are on the move.

In 2017, the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) launched the Dolphin Watch App, and more than 7,000 dolphins have been detected since then.

These sea creatures reside in the Norfolk, Virginia, area during cold weather, but now they are on the move. WTOP News reports that dolphins have been reported in Chesapeake Bay, which is as far north as Baltimore. The public is encouraged to watch and enjoy them but from a safe distance.
