Lemonade stands are illegal in Virginia

Lemonade stands have been a safe way for children to raise funds for decades, but they come with certain risks. Selling lemonade from a stand is only legal in 14 US states one of which is not the Comonwealth.

News10 reported in 2019 that Countrytime Lemonade devoted a website to legalizing the selling of lemonade in the US but there is no record this has been done.

There are risks if you run a lemonade stand in Virginia

In 2021, NBC Washington revealed that Richmond cousins had their lemonade stand shut down by local authorities and risked fines because they did not have a business license.

On August 14, siblings Rebecca and Josh Caldwell of Chesapeake were robbed while selling lemonade in front of their home, and the robbery was caught on a home camera.

According to WAVY News, a man exited a silver Toyota four-door sedan and stole the jar with the money. Wide Open Country says the suspect has not yet been identified.
