Great eating from a dining car

Only in Virginia reports that the Virginia Diner, one of the state's most iconic restaurants, started out as a dining car. In 1929, Mrs. D'Earcy Davis began serving homemade soup and biscuits from a Sussex, Surry, and Southampton Railroad car.

As news spread about the delicious food in the dining car, more square footage was added to accommodate the growing number of patrons. The interior has been updated, but the Southern hospitality and comfort food remains the same.

Located at 408 North County Drive in Wakefield, this iconic Virginia landmark offers home-cooked meals, including fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, and world-famous Virginia peanuts.
