Afternoon showers and storms; Severe Thunderstorm Watch for southern VA

RICHMOND, Va. -- Showers and thunderstorms will continue tracking through central and eastern Virginia through late afternoon and early evening.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for southern Virginia until 9 p.m. Damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph and large hail are possible.

We have a marginal risk (level 1 out of 5) in much of the metro for a few strong or severe storms.

Storms will produce localized heavy rainfall totals, possibly exceeding 2 or 3 inches. A flood watch is in effect for far southern Virginia.

It will stay muggy today, but it will be cooler with highs in the 80s. The feels-like temp could get into the lower 90s in a few spots.

Less humid air will move into the region on Friday. Many areas will stay dry, but an isolated shower or storm cannot be ruled out. The best chance of a shower will be across far southeastern VA.

Muggy air returns for Saturday. There will be occasional showers and storms, but it will not rain the entire day. Highs will be in the low to mid 80s.

Sunday will be muggy with highs 85-90. Scattered storms are possible, with the best chance across southern VA.

It will stay unsettled next week with a chance of at least scattered storms each day. Highs will be in the 80s to around 90, and it will be muggy.
