    Community united

    The Umoja Festival celebrates African American culture and heritage through art, food and music. Enjoy all three this weekend. Umoja, a Kiswahili word, means “unity” in family, community and nation. Everyone is welcome.

    All-you-can-eat and drink

    Head to Poquoson for the Bull Island Barnacle and Brew Festival. The menu includes all-you-can-eat shrimp, crab cakes, fried fish, clam strips, chicken strips, hush puppies and fries. You also get lemonade, water, tea and two beer or wine tickets. Great deal.

    Ghent has the beef

    Celebrate National Burger Day every day for Ghent Burger Week. More than 10 participating restaurants are showcasing their signature burgers. Some include Pixels Pints & Bytes with its Technotronic burger with bacon jam, white cheddar pimento cheese and pickled onion; and Starving Artist Cafe’s bacon cheeseburger breakfast burrito, consisting of cheddar, roasted potatoes and scrambled eggs.
